Camera Location Tips

Many people we talk to are under the impression that to produce a church service on TV takes a budget of hundreds of thousands of dollars, and takes an experienced production crew, with very expensive gear.  For that reason, most never persue the idea, thinking it is way too far beyond their reach financially. However, over the last ten years, I have been able to prove that theory wrong.  Just because of my interest in all things technical, and the film industry in general, I stumbled on the Cable Access TV Station in my town, called Plymouth Area Community TV.  It truly changed my life! After a small membership fee, not only could I take courses, learning all about production, but I could borrow equipment, help out on the production of TV shows – and even create my own show!  I began filming and producing the school plays put on by the K-12 Christian School that operated in my church, and soon began filming our Sunday services using three cameras on a regular basis, making me the Director of my first TV show!  I have been doing that now for over 8 years! In the process, because I was always on an extremely tight budget (based solely on random donations) I was forced to spend a lot of time researching and brainstorming to find alternative ways to accomplish my goal while spending the least amount of money possible.  My experience over the last 8 years, along with some very important help from PACTV, has resulted in a professional looking show, shot with three cameras, in full HD, switched live on site, playing on 5 local cable TV stations in my area, available on DVD and Blu-Ray, soon to be streaming live to the internet.  All this, for a fraction of the expected cost!  And, accomplished by just three volunteers, and easily recorded by just one person if needed! I want you to do the same, and I want to pass on what I have learned to you, and tell you where I have found the best prices on the lowest cost equipment, that will still produce the best results for you.  If all of you called me, I would tell you all the same things, but would get nothing else done.  So, I created these instructional videos, that will teach you just about everything you need to know, so you can do what I did, without all the research time, and the cost of learning from mistakes. As a result, I can offer this to you free of charge. I have also begun a weekly Tips and Newsletter, that I send to everyone on my mailing list.  In it, I will cover new products and ideas, ways to keep quality up, and costs down, additional ideas for video, and other related tips.
Please send us an email if this has helped you, or if you have better ideas for us to share, or if we left something out, and need to create another video to cover it.  We will be updating and adding videos, in order to make this your one-stop place to find the answers you need. But the best way to keep up with the latest, is to sign up for our Church Production Newsletters, full of  more ideas and services to help churches grow!
